Holy Spirit Part 2: Spiritual Breathing

If you’ve lived the Christian life for any longer than, say, a day, you already know that while you might want to make different life choices, it’s easy to slip back into old ways. So how then do you change? Today’s videos have some tips for how to overcome these challenges and make better choices.

Experiencing the Holy Spirit
LaMorris challenges us again to imagine… What if you could magically take on the skills of a pro athlete such as LeBron James? That’s similar to what it’s like having the Holy Spirit in you. You can tap into the Spirit’s authority in your life, living a life that produces characteristics of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)
In this second video, Kim invites us to consider the impact of the Holy Spirit on day-to-day irritations such as a teammate cutting you off during practice.

"Through the Holy Spirit we’ve been gifted...power that allows us to live out the Christian walk in ways we could never do on our own...and a relationship with God." [Highlights from videos]

Kim outlined a few choices we have the strength to make through the Spirit:
  • Confess that we cannot make the right choices on our own
  • Yield control to the Spirit
When we make these choices daily, our lives will look different than before.

Answer the questions below. As before, consider sharing your answers with growth partners. If you’re completing the program solo, write your responses in a journal.
  • What are one or two highlights that stood out for you from the videos?
  • Reflect on the fruitfulness of your life so far; what would your life look like if you were to practice living the Spirit filled life daily?

supplemental resources

You and I can create new rhythms in life—rhythms that can become as natural as breathing. In what can be called “spiritual breathing,” we physically exhale impure air and inhale the pure. Spiritually, we exhale by confessing our sin (1 John 1:9) and inhale by claiming the Spirit’s power (Ephesians 5:18). Learn more here:
