When Megan Soderberg, International Coaches Academy Director, learned that an increasing number of international coaches were having a hard time coming over to the United States for Athletes in Action’s annual stateside event, she knew something had to change.

Investigating deeper into the challenges, Megan spent extensive time with the Guatemala Basketball Federation discussing how to bring the academy right to their own backyard.

“I know the impact of this academy and the number of lives it’s touched. It brings me joy to help coaches avoid the hurdles of coming to the States and for the first time, be able to bring it to them … this is 12 years in the making!”

Last month, 45 coaches showed up for the first-ever four-day “International Coaches Academy” in Guatemala. Packed with rich gospel-centered material, coaches learned how to intersect life, leadership and faith with their sport. They were able to choose from break-out sessions, facilitated discussion, and on-court instruction that catered specifically to their needs.

At the end of camp, 25 coaches signed up to learn more about becoming spiritual influencers — those who use their platform of influence to share the love of Christ — and take it back to their cities. As a result, lives will continue to be impacted.

This launch in Guatemala is just the beginning.

The plan is to have four launches in the next 12 months. Our ultimate goal is to see athletes and coaches living to leave a powerful legacy on every team, in every sport, in every nation — an ambitious goal we believe is possible with God’s provision, persistent prayer and our partnership with you.
