Mark’s faithfulness to God’s call overall and in particular about building the Wooden Family Fieldhouse is a Godly example to all. He is a man after God’s own heart, and walks closely with the Lord to lead Athletes in Action faithfully.

DAVE MCDOWELL

RELATIONAL - honored by the Athletes in Action Board of Trustees

Through decades of service to Athletes in Action, Dave has emphasized building relationships and L.I.F.E. partners in all he does. His heart for others and stepping into relationship, even when it is hard or messy, has uniquely impacted so many, many people. He models God’s desire for His followers to be united and in relationship.

JERRY DENDINGER

PERSEVERANCE - honored by Dave and Debbie Browne

Jerry has been a faithful servant in Athletes in Action, often taking on unexpected or complicated tasks.  He puts his head down, takes a step at a time and perseveres to completion. Steep learning curves, scarcity of resources, and obstacles do not stop him. He often does this without a lot of people knowing what he faced and rarely seeks the spotlight. His perseverance helps Athletes in Action run the good race at a pace Athletes in Action could not achieve without him.

ERIC NELSON

TENACITY - honored by Anonymous

Eric lives a life of passion, purpose, and people. These three areas drive him to commitment and excellence. He cares deeply about people, including family, staff, and those he touches regularly. It is Eric’s desire to connect them with the mission of Athletes in Action and the Lord’s purpose in their lives. He has given his life to mission and purpose and sacrifices greatly for those around him.

DAVE LOWER

HUMBLE SERVANT - honored by Dave and Debbie Browne

Dave’s decades of service have been marked by his humble, relational approach. He has a true heart to serve others, do what is needed and no doubt will hear “Well done thy good and faithful servant” from the Lord himself.

Alex’s courage, as he faced a terminal heart failure diagnosis at only 24 years old, was inspiring. Even until the end he battled, & loved courageously!

BRITTANY BARNES

PATIENCE - honored by Harrison Barnes

Wife. Mother. Entrepreneur. Lover of God. Lover of me.

One who patiently endures all that is hard and remains poised, tranquil, trusting is truly powerful. My Brittany embodies this crucial-to-life fruit-of-the-Spirit. No really good thing is ever built without it. Your patience is my strength and my peace!

SHIRLEY BARNES

HARD WORK - honored by Harrison Barnes

When it comes to hard work, my Mom sets the standard! Her life marked by industry and a terrific can-do spirit has launched me and so many others. Much of my success and significance rests in God’s grace and my Mom’s hard work for me, instilled in me. Thank you, Mom, for showing so many how to relentlessly chase excellence regardless of circumstance and helping us see how hard work truly pays off.

PAUL SABINO

HUMILITY - honored by Harrison Barnes

Humility = true greatness. The way up is down. Down low is where the power is. Paul showed me what a humble life looks like, the Jesus way to greatness. He got to me early on as an adolescent and had great impact on my life. I salute his commitment to live selflessly in a world that tells us it’s all about self-promotion and building your brand. Paul taught me to see myself and others as I ought. What a gift!

TORAN SMITH

FAITHFULNESS - honored by Harrison Barnes

Pastor Smith has been with me since the start, since my story began. His steady beat bringing truth to my life has grounded me. His faithfulness to God and for God has firmed me up. Toran Smith has helped me see the great premium and reward in life that comes with faithful, faith-filled living for the long haul. Thank you for showing me what dogged loyalty and faithfulness to God and others looks like in the midst of a world that too often runs from commitment for the long haul.

MORRIS "COACH MO" MICHALSKI

NOBLENESS - honored by Harrison Barnes

Coach Mo points men to the “upward call of God in Christ Jesus”, to being ‘total athletes’ – ones prepared physically, mentally, and spiritually. (Philippians 3:14) I’ve felt this upward draft and have loved having a man like this in my life that climbs with me. He has helped me royally to see Jesus, to follow Him, to understand who I am in Him, and to play to an ‘Audience of One’. He gets me focused not just on scoring buckets and making stops, but on living as a Kingdom man! Keep humbly serving and lifting men to the heights as sons of God, Coach Mo!

Headshot of Monty Williams

MONTY WILLIAMS

FRIENDSHIP - honored by Harrison Barnes

A friend is a neighbor of the heart, not just a good peer –  one who speaks truth, tells you what you need to hear more than want to hear. A friend loves well, and sticks with you across all the lanes of your life for a lifetime. Coach Monty Williams has been all this to me…a friend I have really valued and relied on. Monty is what I have needed relationally over and over…a voice I need to hear, an example to follow, calling me up – not out – and consistently pointing me to God. What a gift Monty has been in my basketball world and beyond!
