Athlete, Movements and Multiplication Start Here

Morris Michalski

Galatians 3:6,8 (NIV)

So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” ... Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”

Great movements in the history of mankind have been born and built on a belief of better, that something or someone is worth following.

Aren’t you glad for the guys who invented the wheel and suspension bridge … or Henry Ford and the Wright Brothers? Glad for the team that invented the mobile device you are using to read this right now?

I’m so glad so many have followed the lead of James Naismith who invented the game of basketball that has multiplied its artistry and athleticism, its adventure and story, its spirit of sharing worldwide.

But believing something is better can be risky, dangerous, even devastating. Believing that fascism, nazism, classism and racism have real merit is wrong and deluded, but these movements deceive, smolder and perpetuate anyway. Too often we believe ourselves way too much.

And this is what happens. Justice gets perverted. Mercy gets sidelined. Humility disappears. Blind eyes produce black eyes. And God laments as the world He made badly injures itself yet again.

Instead of believing something is better, believe Someone is best. Believe God. Believe God at His Word. Trust the One who made us all, who made all this. He has plenty to say. And offers plenty to follow. Abraham did. And all nations have been blessed. That includes you and me.

This is the pattern God outlines for us. Movement building and life multiplication is always best built around believing God and living accordingly. That’s when justice rolls, mercy flows and humility grows. (Micah 6:8 — the exact model God wants to see multiplying in us all.)

Yes, God blesses the moves we make that show we believe Him. In fact, He often turns them into movements, multiplied blessings. A multiplied life starts with believing God.

Reflect: Is your life trending toward good multiplication? Where might God want you to believe Him today? What other voice may need rejection so that your life multiplication gets a new, beautiful lift?

A prayer to consider: LORD, help me stop believing me so much and resume trusting You more. That may involve rejecting deep social trends and tuning out others’ strong voices too. I want to recognize Your voice above all and silence the whispered claims of the evil one.

That won’t happen without me spending consistent time with You in Bible-reading and prayer. May believing You set the consistent course for everything in my life. Like Abraham, I look forward to the multiplication and movement-building You bring to those who trust You. Amen.
