I’ve got a pair of questions for you:

Who has been a great communicator with you personally? (Name one or two if you can.)

What is it about their communication that’s been great for you? (Take a moment and pinpoint something.)

My best coaches, profs and mentors have been great communicators. They have spoken life to me and delivered love, truth and grace in rich, right blends. I’ve experienced it personally and noticed it broadly. They’ve become pretty masterful at Communication 101, and I have benefitted immensely. I bet you can relate.

Now reread today’s Scripture. Notice with me some masterful communication prompts prophet Ezekiel gets from God. Lines like this are actually found all over the Bible — almost 700 times. Today’s Scripture is but a sample. Here they are:

THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO ME. The true and living God is in the business of coming, not just waiting to be discovered or acknowledged. Hallelujah for that! God not only created us but has sought us. He proves this over and over again. 

Great communication comes. It seeks. And it finds a way to get personal. 

SAY TO THEM. Vital communication must be passed on. Good, valuable stuff needs to be shared. God intends that much of what He communicates is not just individual. It’s meant to be multiplied.   

THIS IS WHAT THE SOVEREIGN LORD SAYS. God has things to say. He is not as silent as we may think. Move with confidence when He does speak. And speak with authority when relaying His words to others. Mention His words, not just yours. It adds such weight when He is quoted. 

THEN THEY WILL KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD. God is in the business of communicating. He loves to connect the dots back to Himself. He wants to be known. He will be known. Fully known (1 Corinthians 13:12). That’s communication greatness. Imitate it. 

I WILL FULFILL WHATEVER I SAY. God is a promise-maker and a promise-keeper. He is a “Man of His Word.” Therefore His Word carries weight. His promise-keeping sees to it. Great communicators do just this. 

Reflect: How has God come to you? Has His Word, His Spirit, His Son brought any truth, hope, faith, peace, forgiveness, discipline, strength, courage, wisdom and understanding, victory your way … lately?

How might you make the LORD more known to someone today? Take a communication initiative. Share something of what God told you with others — either for accountability wins or witness wins. Your story is not meant just for you. 

Where might you need to communicate with more authority and conviction, based on what God says?

What promise of God should you rest in today? And how’s your word with others holding up? Any tightening up needed?

A prayer to consider: Thank You, Heavenly Father, for being a great communicator. You are masterful at knowing and being known. The gifts of your Son, your Spirit, and your Word are amazing. And thanks for sending messengers my way to help me hear from You. I am so very grateful. 

Help me to communicate well in this world, connecting as many dots of grace and truth as possible for all who starve for both. And keep me in vital touch with You. I’m sure You’ll have more to say. All for now … Amen.
