Athlete, Here are Three Things We Really Need
Mo Michalski
2 Peter 1:2-4 (NIV)
Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
Did you notice some striking “P” words in today’s Scripture? Peace. Power. Promises. I’m so glad the Bible talks about words like this. If we are really honest, we need them alive and active in us more than we often think.
We need peace to override unsettling circumstances we face any given day. We need power to override real feelings of weakness or helplessness we experience when life hits hard. And we need promises to override the hopelessness that living in this world can bring.
Where do we find such things? The Bible says that these three are found best in Christ. Today’s Scripture declares this. To know Him is to experience these three.
PEACE: Jesus knows how to find peace in the midst of a storm, a road game, a crucifixion. He knows how to find peace when misunderstood, marginalized, threatened, rejected. And He not only knows how to find peace but also how to bring it to others … in abundance!
Get to know Him. He knows peace. He brings peace. He is peace.
POWER: Jesus knows how to get up and get going. He got up for school. He got up for work. He got up for prayer. He got up for “road games” (with the greatest powers of His day).
He got up on a cross. He got up from a grave. He got myriads of others up too. He knows power. He deeds power. He is power.
PROMISES: Jesus knows how to deliver hope. Real hope. Not one of His many exceeding great and precious promises has failed. He promises. He delivers. He is hope.
So keep getting to know Him. Stay in touch. Ask for His peace. Ask for His power. Claim His promises. His peace, power and promises will flood your soul, guard your heart and mind, and make you move just right.
Reflect: Are you in need of peace, power or a good promise today? Do you know where and how to find it?
Try memorizing some great promises like these: John 5:24; John 10:10; Romans 8:1, 35-39; Hebrews 13:5; Psalm 91; Psalm 119:105,165, Isaiah 26:3 and Isaiah 30:21 (there are tons more too!).
A prayer to consider: LORD, thank you for providing terrific promises, power, and peace to me. O how I need them! Help me to keep getting to know Your Son and follow Your Spirit’s lead. Don’t let me fear but confidently embrace these great provisions from Your loving heart. Amen.
