Athlete, Experience a Living Legend
Morris Michalski
Proverbs 30:5-6 (ESV)
Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and you be found a liar.
Larry Bird is nicknamed “Larry Legend.” He could really ball out.
God in Christ is the ultimate “Living Legend.” He delivers on His promises. He can’t miss. He defends like crazy. He backs up His words with action. He will not be upstaged. He will get the last word. That comes forth clearly in Proverbs 30:5-6.
Let’s take a closer look and make personal application:
TRUSTWORTHY: Like a shooter whose shots always seem to find their target, God’s words are flawless. They always prove true and hold up under scrutiny. Like a guy who can’t miss, God’s words prove undeniably, consistently true.
Count on them to score. So build the offensive game plan of your life around His ability to do just that. Trust Him no matter what He says and go for it. Let His words help you score too.
REFUGE: God is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. He’s committed to bring personal safety and security in a shaky world. (What a great promise and comfort!)
Those that don’t make Him their refuge have no real cover. They operate more unprotected than they could imagine. They play life with a porous defense no matter how good their defensive system is.
So build the defensive game plan of your life around the LORD. Take refuge in Him. He can flat out guard and defend.
LAST WORD: God gets the last word. Let Him. Don’t try to take it from Him and offer your own.
Don’t add to what He’s said because you don’t like it or want to spin things another way that suits you better. That won’t work. He’ll call you out. And He’ll call you up.
So build the last word on any decision you face around the LORD (and avoid others who suggest they know better too).
Reflect: What has God said that you might be struggling to believe? From what might you need refuge right now?
Chew on legendary Scripture lines like John 5:24 or 8:12, trusting Christ’s claims regarding life and death, light and darkness. Memorize them. Hide them in your heart.
A prayer to consider: LORD Jesus, You are Living Legend! Keep wowing me with Your trustworthy play. You prove Your words so true. Let them keep scoring in me.
Be my shield, my rock, my refuge. I find my rest in Your defense. Help me to keep leaving the last word to You on anything I face today. Amen and Amen.
