There were 562 Native American tribes in modern-day America prior to the Europeans’ arrival. Each tribe had different characteristics and customs.

Whether you realize it or not, your team and circle of friends is like a tribe.

I was on the basketball team and baseball team in college. Each team had distinct characteristics and cultures.

To an extent, each member of the teams adopted the characteristics of the group. It was impossible not to.

We lived, ate, traveled and practiced together. We knew the same game, underwent the same experiences and used the same lingo.

Jesus didn’t have much of my attention in college. But as I look back, I can see it would have been hard to stay faithful to Him and also belong to the culture of each team.

How are you doing with that?

It can be easy to forget about Jesus’ culture when you are part of a culture not centered around Him. But you can effectively be part of your team’s culture and God’s culture. You can belong to God and your team.

You can see how to do this by looking at Jesus. He remained faithful to God and belonged to humanity.

He took on the human culture — He ate, walked, sneezed, laughed, cried and died. For Jesus, partaking in the divine nature didn’t mean shunning humanity. It doesn’t mean that for us either.

You can be certain God wants you to belong to Him and your teammates simultaneously. He wants you to bear the traits of being His follower and also be an integral part of your team.

Action: Bring your supernatural powers down to earth.
