Conversations surrounding justice issues have increased in the past year as a result of the country’s ongoing racial reckoning. Former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson took time to talk about the origins of true justice at the 2021 Super Bowl Breakfast.

“God is holy and He is just. So when we talk about justice, justice flows from the heart of God. Justice demanded that we be sent to eternal damnation and separation from him. Justice demanded that we pay the price for every single wrong thing we have ever done,” Watson said. “Instead of having us pay the price, he sent his one and only son.”

“We’re in a situation where we need the blood of Christ to make us just before Him. Through repentance and faith, and putting our faith and trust in what Jesus did on the cross, that’s how we get what the Bible calls eternal life. Eternal life is not just living in heaven, but the Bible says in John that eternal life starts now. Eternal life is knowing God and knowing Jesus who he sent. He was fully God and He was fully man. Because of that He can take away the sin debt and pay the debt that we cannot pay. Not only that, the Bible says He rose again and now He is seated at the right hand of the Father.”

The Knowing God Personally resource explains how you can know the true justice Benjamin referenced and make a decision to have a new life in Christ. Here are some principles to guide your growth in your relationship with Christ.

Principle 1: God loves you and created you to know Him personally.

Principle 2: Man is sinful and separated from God, so we cannot know Him personally or experience His love.

Principle 3: Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for man’s sin. Through Him alone we can know God personally and experience God’s love.

Principle 4: We must individually receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know God personally and experience His love.

Principle 5: Our new life in relationships begins with a decision to live a life pleasing to God.
