VOLUNTEER CATEGORIES
There are 3 general categories of Volunteers. Determining which is the best category for
your volunteer is important. Here are the distinctives:
1. Affiliate Volunteer
– This is the highest level of volunteer in which they receive an account number and
an AIA email address
– Typically recruited by a staff member who knows them well
– They raise funds and reimburse ministry expenses so this should be happening on
an ongoing basis to warrant a staff account.
– Must apply for a Cru staff card to be able to reimburse expenses
– They should have weekly/monthly ministry throughout the year with AIA
– There is a short online application, which includes 2 references, their file is reviewed
for acceptance (not needed if current staff/interns/PTFS/Stint)
– They must have a staff member agree to be their supervisor
– They must fill out the Volunteer Service Agreement each year to maintain this status
– Will need background check
– Will be in Cru system
– They do not need to attend senior staff conference or Springboard
– Staff recruiting a volunteer reaches out to Pat Lower who will send a google form to
gather the needed info to start the process
2. Volunteer without an account but may request AIA email address
– Typically recruited by a staff member who knows them well
– There is a short online application if the volunteer is doing hands on ministry but no
references needed if someone from the team they are joining knows them well
enough. If the volunteer role is non-ministerial i.e admin, finances, web etc they do
not need to fill out the application
– This volunteer will not have the ability to raise funds
– They may have an AIA email account if requested
– This would be someone who has ongoing involvement but doesn’t need an account
– Can have a ministry card if approved by supervisor
– Will need background check
– Will need a supervisor and have to fill out the Volunteer Service Agreement annually
– Will be in Cru system
– Staff recruiting a volunteer reaches out to Pat Lower who will send a google form to
gather the needed info to start the process
3. Casual Volunteer
– This volunteer does not have ongoing involvement but might be someone who helps
at an event or steps in to fill a minor role on occasion
– They will not have an AIA email address
– They are never to be unsupervised doing ministry in the name of AIA
– Nothing formal needs to happen for this type of volunteer
– It is the responsibility of the team they volunteer for to vouch for anyone who is
volunteering with our ministry
– They are not background checked or in Cru’s system
