Athlete, Make God Your Dwelling Place

Make God Your Dwelling Place

6:12  “May God, who has caused His Name to dwell there, overthrow any king or people who lifts a hand to change this decree or to destroy this temple in Jerusalem.”

Ezra 6:12 (NIV)

The idea that someone else dwells with us, in us, applying an invisible, guiding hand and a strong, protecting touch, is a most beautiful, powerful thought. As expressed in today’s Scripture, King Cyrus, monarch of the greatest world empire of his day, recognized an ultimate Someone doing just this. Do you?

Indeed, God causes His Name to dwell among men. His Spirit hovers, inspires, competes and defends. And it becomes much more internal, beneficial, powerful and real than beholding externals like “Touchdown Jesus” at the University of Notre Dame or the “Christ the Redeemer” statue overlooking Rio, Brazil.

Be sure of this: God causes His Name to dwell among us. The Bible clearly teaches that the Spirit of Christ lives on in us who believe (1 Corinthians 6:19,20).

It goes way beyond buildings and statues. He gets personal and goes viral. He abides within.

He protects His dwelling places and drives our proper worship. History proves it. People experience it.

Reflect: Do you feel safe, supported, guided, and encouraged by God? Has His Name found a dwelling place, a temple, in you? How can His Name be better supported in and through you today?

A prayer to consider: LORD, I love Your Name! Thank You for making Your Name dwell with me and in me. Help me defend the honor of your Name wherever I go and in every way that I live … for Your great glory and my joy in You. Amen.
