12 "I thank Him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because He judged me faithful, appointing me to His service."
1 Timothy 1:12 (ESV)
Having a big thought sure helps to lift us when life feels dull and routine or when times are tough and something more is needed.
Here's a ”First Four” of big thoughts found early on in 1 Timothy. Let's take a closer look, treasure it together, be challenged and encouraged.
GRATITUDE EXPRESSED: Jesus grants His unleashed power, special commendation and lofty mission to His followers, His friends. Let endless, royal thanks flow unrestrained.
STRENGTH GIVEN: In many ways we know how to add strength. Just keep adding reps, sets, distance and intensity. Isn't that the recipe? Actually, not always. What's more striking is when strength is GIVEN, not just earned.
God wants us to experience His strength given. It comes through His Word and His Spirit. O friend, let's receive this like Jesus, through Jesus! Let's learn to struggle with all HIS energy which so powerfully works in us (see Colossians 1:29).
FAITHFULNESS COMMENDED: God constantly assesses and considers well. He sees with laser-like precision, and He places His highest premiums on the faithfulness He spots in us. To be tagged as faithful is the highest honor. So keep striving for faithfulness to God and others.
SERVICE APPOINTED: To receive a service appointment to a U.S. ambassador position, cabinet post, or military academy is great honor. How much greater it is to be appointed by God for His kingdom service!
He wants us to be done with our self-appointed pursuits. Carrying out a service appointment by God is the ultimate mission and highest nobility. Memorize 1 Timothy 1:12, and recite it often.
Is GRATITUDE to Christ for strength, commendation, sacred status and special mission alive and active in you?
Are you living largely self-reliant, or are you experiencing STRENGTH given? How much of God's Word and Christ's Spirit is flowing daily in and through you?
Are you striving for FAITHFULNESS and to be known for this?
Consider the object of your SERVICE. Is it (secretly) for yourself; for others; or for God?
A suggested prayer: O Jesus, fresh thanks to You for strength given, faithfulness rewarded and royal service offered! I accept all this with much gratitude. Following You is truly best! The verse 1 Timothy 1:12 is my heart expressed!
